Gone Fishing

Here's another card I had tucked away in my picture folder from my last box of OWH cards. This image is from Mo's Digital Pencil. She has such a marvelous illustration style. If you haven't visited her  in awhile you will be delighted by all the new images that have been added in the past couple of months.

I will admit that many of Mo's image are quite detailed and therefore fairly complex to color but even when they don't come out exactly as I had envisioned (which is at least 90% of the time) I always enjoy the challenge of coloring them.

I created the green compass embellishment by simply punching it right out of a printed pattern and then distressing the edge with a sanding block and adding a basic brad. Looking to your patterned papers can be an easy way to get an unusual embellishment that's perfectly coordinated to the rest of your design.

Friendship Challenge - Spectrum Noir

I'm joining in on this month's 'Friendship Challenge' at the Spectrum Noir blog. I  got this image over at Mo Manning's Digital Pencil. I'd seen it before while browsing and knew the moment I saw the challenge theme that this was the perfect image.

As some of you know from previous posts I received the base set of 72 markers as a gift in June and as of late having been doing most of my coloring with them exclusively. I like them quite a bit and because they are refillable I think it's most likely that as I run down my Prismacolor Markers (which are not refillable) I probably won't replace them as I've been doing. I may even save up some and add the additional four sets of markers Spectrum Noir offers to 'extend' the color range.

I know that many crafters swear by Copics. Many collect them just one or two at a time, and I'm not here to convince you otherwise but if you're on a tighter budget but would still like to explore coloring with markers I think the Spectrum Noir base collection would be something to consider. Mine were a gift to me but I've seen them at my JoAnn's (I'm pretty sure you can use coupons on them) and at many online retailers. At Simon Says Stamp the base set of 72 will set you back about $145. Not inexpensive by any means but within reach for many. The base set includes a nice selection of colors and as you can see in this card, plenty to color even a fairly complex image nicely.

Waiting For The Parade & Spectrum Noirs

When you say 'Summer' most peoples thoughts go immediately to the beach. Having lived on the East Coast shore my entire life I too think of sun and sand but for me Independence Day and Summer are virtually synonymous. So when I first spotted the Summer Challenge at the Spectrum Noir site I went on a treasure hunt for just the right image and found this totally adorable little girl (the illustration is titled  'Waiting for The Parade') over at Mo Manning's Digital Pencil.

This is one of the first images I've colored exclusively with my new Specturm Noir marker set and I will admit that I wasn't totally convinced that I could avoid dipping into my larger Prismacolor Art Marker collection but in fact the set of 72 markers were more then enough to do the job.
