Would You Please Repeat That

Voting is underway for PaperCrafts Round 3 of the Gallery Idol competition. It ends on Thursday and I will know on Friday if I get to compete in the next round. It's been an exciting ride so far and I've been enjoying the challenge immensely but in the meanwhile I'm going to keep my mind occupied and share a few other cards this week.

This card ties right in to the new OWH Bootcamp Class on Repetition. We've already covered quite a few topics but I have to say that of all of them, Creating a Strong Focal Point is by far the most important and Repetition is probably the single easiest way to make your designs cohesive.

It doesn't have to be at all complicated. As you design your card simply stop and ask yourself 'What elements can I repeat?'. In this card I intentionally chose my papers so they would repeat the colors I used to color in the lighthouse image and I added the white brads to repeat the polka dotted paper pattern. That's all there is to it. Give it a try and I promise you that you will be surprised at the results.

Dictionary Floral

Over a year ago I found myself at on of our town libraries at the used book shop and I picked up an old dictionary. It was partly damaged but it was fine for my purposes. I trimmed the pages to use in my card making. You can see it here in this card. There are two considerations if this is something you'd like to do. First, make sure the paper is fairly heavy, in this old book the paper was quite thin and is therefore harder to work with. Second, be sure to choose a book with a fairly small print since you're likely to be using small pieces if the font is too large it won't give you the effect of 'text' and may start to compete with the rest of your design.

It's a great choice for masculine designs and I think this might be the first time I've ever used it with a floral in this way but I like the effect. I am almost completely out of the pages and plan to work on finding a replacement soon.

Fruits - February ODBD Challenge

I currently have a "list' of cards to create... some for challenges, some to test out a new technique or cards I've been wanting to CASE. At the top of the list was a card for this month's  OWH Our Daily bread Challenge to use "fruit" in your design. I'd missed playing in January but wanted to get to this month, knowing right away that these stamps would be perfect. I decided I would combine it with a technique I have seen and always liked, stamping on kraft and coloring with colored pencils.

No Heart

I'm working on some Valentine/Love cards for my next shipment to Dixie and decided to take up the challenge to work on some that don't include hearts. Here's one with an adorable wintery image from Elizabeth O. Dulemba (go checked out her great work and bookmark her site!).

This one use an old Stampin Up! stamp and in both cases the papers are from my seemingly endless stash. (Yes, I confess I have quite a lot of paper... too much of it to keep track of where I get it!)
