Printed Papers - Midweek Throwdown

This midweek throwdown is right up my alley. It's rare for me to create a card that doesn't include at least some printed paper and I often use more then one. Mixing papers can be a little tricky and my approach is to just makes sure that one of the papers is much more dominant then the other. If you're new to card making or don't feel completely comfortable using printed papers I suggest starting out by combining them with solids (embossed Cuttlebug solids are great with prints) and then move on to replace the solids with tone-on-tone and subtly printed designs.

Though I have lots of rubber stamps that I enjoy using at heart I am really, truly a "paper person" and could be just as happy creating cards with nothing but pretty papers.

Paula, each of your cards is beautiful, and I'm especially taken by the hummingbird card. How did you color the bird? I greatly appreciate your tips for new cardmakers!! I think it would be neat to have tips like yours as a regular feature for newbies at the OWH site!! Thanks so much.

Hi Sherry, Thanks for your kind words. The Hummingbird was colored with magic markers. I don't use Copics as I have a set of design studio markers made by Prisma Color. The technique and concept is similar no matter what medium (markers, colored pencils or watercolors). For instance I used one shade of blue for the base of the bird and then accented it with a darker shade.

Your cards are so lovely. I really like your color and design choices. I love pretty papers too, even though I have a million rubber stamps (well, maybe not a million). Congrats on being Featured Stamper on OWH!
